GLOBAL DENIM AWARDS MADE POSSIBLE BY e3 RETURNS TO AMSTERDAM
AMSTERDAM (October 5th, 2015) Global Denim Awards, made possible by e3, will return to Amsterdam on Oct. 29 with a selection of eight emerging fashion designers and eight denim mills.
Global Denim Awards pairs the latest innovations from the world’s top denim mills with an international pick of talented designers. Eight teams are challenged to create a capsule collection of five denim looks that showcase their combined craftsmanship and innovative ideas. The result is an unprecedented collaboration between talent and industry which creates a directional platform for the future of denim design, innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship.
Supported by e3, the winning designer will be awarded €10,000 and have his/her winning designs displayed at the Kingpins shows in Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong and at Amsterdam Denim Days 2016. An honorable award will be given to the mill with the most innovative fabric.
Global Denim Awards is a truly collaborative concept developed by HTNK Fashion Recruitment & Consultancy, House of Denim and Kingpins Show and is made possible by e3. The eight selected designers have been given the opportunity to visit their designated mill to develop an in-depth understanding of fiber, fabric, wash and denim development. Armed with these new skills as well as their mill’s best fabrications, the capsule collections are developed. They will be judged on and off the catwalk by a jury of denim professionals on the merits of the design and the innovative nature of the denim fabrications.
The Global Denim Awards jury consists of four true industry experts. Adriano Goldschmied, a denim legend in his own right, is considered the godfather of jeans, being i.e. founder of Diesel, Replay, Gap 1969, Adriano Goldschmied AG and Goldsign. Amy Leverton has been working in the denim industry since 2003; four years as a denim and casual wear designer and the last eight years in trend forecasting and consultancy. Amy Leverton also is the author of Denim Dudes, the world’s best sold book on denim styles. Menno van Meurs is co-founder of Tenue de Nîmes, acclaimed as one of the best denim stores worldwide with three branches in Amsterdam. The fourth jury member is Pierre Morisset, head designer at G-Star RAW and ‘inventor’ of one of the last true icons of denim design, the G-Star RAW Elwood.
Participating mills and designers
-Advance Denim Co (since 1987, China), one of China’s oldest mills is known for its premium denim. They teamed up with ArtEZ Institute of the Arts graduates Tung Trinh and Tim Becx.
-Atlantic Mills (since 2002, Thailand) is a family-owned company with one of the largest selvedge collections available worldwide. They teamed up with Swiss designer Michael Seiter.
-Berto Textile Industry (since 1887, Italy) is renowned for its craftsmanship in knitwear and denim. They partnered with Italian StudioPretzel founded in 2011 by Emiliano Laszlo.
-Calik Denim (since 1987, Turkey) is one of the largest denim mills in the world. They teamed up with Istanbul-based designer Gualçin Çengel.
-Candiani Denim (since 1938, Italy) states being world’s most sustainable denim mill. They teamed up with Sartoria Diletto by Andrea Diletto, an Italian master-tailor who was born and raised in Germany.
-ITV Denim (since 1973, Italy) delivered last year’s winner of the Global Denim Awards. This year they teamed up with ready to wear label Alexandra Frida from Amsterdam.
-Prosperity Textile LTD (since 1995, China) may be one of the fastest growing denim mills in the world. They teamed up with Dutch creative studio Maison the Faux.
-Tejidos Royo (1903, Spain) is driven by sustainable production of cutting-edge denim and teamed up with Dutchman John-Randy Anthony, who recently graduated of Jeans School Amsterdam.
